Cummins Technician Apprentices gain the extraordinary opportunity to work beside and learn from the most extraordinary Cummins Technicians and gain an education at the same time. You’ll begin your apprenticeship and earn while you learn and achieve your Associates in Applied Science Degree and US Department of Labor Trade Certificate.

Beyond your on-the-job training, you’ll receive college classroom, online and hands-on training that will place you on the leading edge of technology. On a daily basis you’ll work with experienced technicians on a wide variety of engine and equipment platforms. Our extraordinary technology needs extraordinary technicians – and that’s what you will become through our Technician Apprentice Program.

Technician Apprentice Program

As a Full Time Employee, you will work at any of our 180 Sales and Service locations across the US and Canada. You will develop skills for service, maintenance, troubleshooting & diagnostics on Diesel and Natural Gas Engines. This apprenticeship focuses on development of your professional, personal and technical skills. Each year of the program, you will receive an average of 250 hours of combined on-line and classroom at your designated regional college or Cummins Training Center.

  • Graduate with Two Year AAS (Associates of Applied Science) Degree

  • State and Federal US Department of Labor Trade Certificate

  • Engine Warranty Repair Qualification in six weeks


Education Criteria

  • High School diploma with an unweighted 2.8 minimum GPA

  • GED with one year of college with minimum 2.8 GPA

  • Military Veteran

Career Path Opportunities

  • In addition to your Associates of Science Degree and US Department of Labor Trade Certificate, after 2 ½ years you’ll work with your management team to identify a specific career path during the last 18 months of your Apprenticeship:
  1. Light Duty, Midrange, Heavy Duty and Natural Gas Engines

  2. Power Generation Consumer/Commercial Preventive Maintenance Technician

  3. Marine for Pleasure Craft and Commercial Craft Vessels

  4. High Horsepower training for 19L to 95L Engines

  5. Service Leadership Training to prepare you for an entry level Service Administration Role

  • You will receive Cummins-specific Qualifications
  1. Basic Electrical Theory and Troubleshooting

  2. Insite Diagnostics Software

  3. Engines or Power Generation or Service Leadership Qualifications
