We are looking for a talented Product Reliability Engineer to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Corporate Business in Columbus, IN and/or your remote home office.

In this early career role as a Product Reliability Engineer, you will focus on enabling new and current product teams to meet customer and business reliability requirements and reduce product reliability risk. To do this, you will conduct activities needed to understand historical failures, prevent and detect new failures, and evaluate and mitigate known failure modes to improve reliability. This position may also maintain tools and methods used to assess and improve product reliability.

As a Product Reliability Engineer, you will:

  • Utilize your skills and knowledge of systems reliability engineering, product problem solving, failure mode avoidance, reliability risk management, reliability test planning, and quantitative reliability analysis to help teams develop and deliver products that meet end customer and Cummins’ reliability requirements.

  • Implement the process to record, prioritize, and resolve product failures.

  • Understand reliability risk of new or difficult product functions through product failure mode avoidance activities.

  • Plan critical reliability activities during new product development

  • Collaborate and communicate effectively (both verbal and written) with key stakeholders and colleagues.

You will make an impact by:

  • Applying and supporting the improvement of processes such as quantitative reliability analysis and failure reporting and corrective action systems and tools required to support the processes and enable high quality decision making.

  • Investigating product problems, understanding causal mechanisms, recommending actions, owning problem resolution, and documenting results

  • Obtaining input and negotiating with new product technical and core teams and delivering plans to meet critical reliability deliverables to new product development leadership with the support of more experienced team members.

  • Making decisions in the areas of product problem prevention, detection and correction that impact overall new product reliability.

  • Mitigating potential product failure modes, by identifying interfaces, functions, functional requirements, interactions, control factors, noise factors, and prioritized potential failure modes and potential failure causes for the system of interest to effectively and efficiently improve the reliability.

  • Analyzing failure data from existing and/or new products by establishing failure rate models for use in assessing the feasibility of meeting reliability targets, comparing the reliability of product alternatives, estimating reliability and product coverage costs, identifying emerging issues, or verifying that improvements implemented have had the desired reliability improvement.

  • Developing and analyzing reliability test plans that apply stresses and noises to understand the reliability of products and to find unknown failure modes.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • A College, University or equivalent Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field

  • A postgraduate (Master’s or PhD) degree may be required for select Product Reliability Engineer roles.

  • Good communication skills along with strengths in logic, planning and decision making.

  • Good analytical, experimental and project management skills

  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools or equivalents, especially Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Major Programs Typically Considered: All Engineering Majors

Cummins Full Time Requirements:

  • College, university or equivalent technical experience required

  • Minimum 2.5 or above GPA required

  • Must be able to complete 40 hours per week

  • 0-2 years in a position/internship relating to your field of study preferred

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
